Rachel took a deep breath and smelled the fresh scent of rain in the air. It was early morning and all the other campers were probably eating breakfast or still asleep in their beds. The only cabin up at this time of the day was the Apollo cabin, mostly because they awoke with the sun. As the new and improved Greek Oracle, Rachel fell in with Apollo Cabin the easiest. They had immense amounts of respect for her and were more than understanding about her stresses and difficulties with the position. Once a week she would even eat with the Apollo Cabin, abandoning her usual table with Chiron. It felt nice to be included in a Cabin instead of outcasted as she usually was when around the other campers.
Rachel smiled softly to herself as she turned her work before her. Being a mortal had a lot of disadvantages in a camp for demigods, she found out in her first year at camp. She was limited to what she could do with activities, mostly the dangerous ones. It wasn't like they were going to send their Oracle out into battle any time soon, so it didn't really matter much. For the first few years of being an Oracle made Rachel feel particularily helpless but Rachel was not going to wallow about in self pity and instead turned her attentions to more useful tasks. Such as this one. Rachel's summer project for this year was to create a library. While Camp Half-Blood had a huge collection of ancient Greek items and books, Rachel wanted to concentrate her resources on modern day collections on Greek mythology. It was a daunting task with most of the material false, sometimes laughably so, but since she started Rachel had found a few gems of knowledge that made even Chiron raise his eyebrows. It was a bit of a tedious task but at the end of the day it was a necessary evil.
Rachel brushed a hand over an old, collector's copy of the tale of Cassandra and Apollo, the paper looked just about ready to crumble under her touch. Rachel sighed to herself and stretched her legs in front of her, hearing the pop and crack at the movement. The Amphitheater was her favourite place in camp and blessedly empty most of the time. It was the place where she spent most of her time when she wasn't at the Big House.
