TEARS STREAMING DOWN YOUR FACE
Erin didn't want Toby to return to the Greek camp, he wanted him to stay at Camp Jupiter with him. But he hadn't been able to sway his brother to stay permanently. He'd been able to introduce him to Max - Toby had embarrassed him by saying they made a very cute couple and calling Horace his and Max's child. But all in all he'd enjoyed sneaking his brother around camp. Kyle hadn't found out or else he was certain the praetor would have sent his brother packing.
But Toby had gotten to know the Roman camp a bit and had insisted on some Romans joining him when he went back to camp. He thought they could try to talk down the tension between the camps. Erin had, of course, volunteered and then dragged Hunter and Max with him.
They got off a bus that dropped them off in Manhattan - Erin wasn't happy about being back there. He carried Horace in his arms, though he had a leash attached to the dog's harness. Toby had taken his jacket off and insisted his younger brother wear it, which Erin had complied with. He'd forgotten how could New York could get.
"Have you ever been to New York?" he asked Hunter and Max, smiling brightly at both of them. If he hadn't been holding Horace, he would have been holding Max's hand. Instead, he walked close to his boyfriend, so their shoulders and arms occasionally brushed.
Erin had lived a few years in Manhattan before going to Lupa. Enough years to associate the city with only negative things. It was hard for him to keep a smile on at the memories the city brought back. Toby, he'd noticed, wasn't smiling. He was walking as close as he could without it being awkward. Erin didn't mind. He felt safe with Toby around.
Erin eventually put Horace on the ground, allowing the puppy to spread it's legs and walk. He kept the leash short so hisbaby puppy didn't leave his side. He gently grasped Max's hand with his free one and intertwined their fingers.
"I remember one year, Toby and I snuck out," he started chatting away, earning a smirk from Toby. "So we could see the ball drop in Times Square. It was crowded and we almost got lost. This girl even grabbed and kissed Toby when it turned midni-" He was cut off when he bumped into someone exiting a store. Before he could apologize, Toby had his arms around him and yanked him back from who he'd bumped into. It caused him to tug on Horace's leash and the puppy made a startled bark before following hisdad owner.
He would have asked Toby why he'd done that, but he felt his brother's entire body tense up and felt how tightly he had his arms wrapped around him. He was being held close to Toby's body, as if his brother thought if he held him close enough and tight enough, no one could rip them apart. It was the same thing Toby had done when they'd been kids.
That was when he looked up and saw just who he'd bumped into. He visibly paled and fear flashed across his face, just as it had Toby's. Their stepfather stood there along with two of his friends that both boys unfortunately knew. His friends may not have ever touched them, but they'd smacked them around before and been verbally abusive.
Erin squirmed in Toby's grasp so he could reach down and grasp Horace. Once he had his baby in his arms, he stood still, allowing his brother to try his best to shield him.
Tucker Davis - he'd taken their mom's last name for reasons unknown to them - looked at the four boys. Recognition flashed across when he looked at his stepsons. He grinned.
"Long time no see, kids," he said, his voice sending chills up the Davis brothers' spines.
