Lucas loved the camp's location. It was in California - bright and sunny California! He could sneak out and go to beaches or Disneyland if he felt like it. And today, he felt like it. With the intruder scare and Kyle getting hurt, he felt like he needed a break, a vacation of sorts. It was easy enough for him to slip out; he'd done it a million times before. He rarely ever got caught, but usually when he did, his brother would ground him and the praetors would up his training even more. He liked fighting, he was good at it, but he hated training - it felt too much like a chore. No offense to Hunter, one of his centurions, but he wanted his training to be fun, not brutal. He didn't want to feel like he was dying of exhaustion.
He planned to go back to camp eventually, he usually did. He might take a day or two, but if it was more than a day, he usually sent a text to his big brother. The first time he'd forgotten, he'd scared the crap out of Logan. He may have appeared carefree, and often he was, but he hated making his brother worry. Though he wasn't sure if he hated getting grounded more than worrying his brother. Probably, but he'd never tell Logan that.
He'd been to Disneyland when he was younger with his mother and brother but may or may not have gained up with his brother to pull a prank on the entire park. The only reason they weren't banned was because their mother - after laughing her ass off - had snuck them away before they could get caught. Oh to be a young prankster. He didn't ever want to grow old.
He'd alreadystolengotten Mickey Mouse ears. He thought they went well with his outfit. Not that his outfit was necessarily a good one, but he wasn't one for fashion. Perhaps one day Bran, Blaze or Max would tackle him to the ground and give him a makeover. Until then he would continue dressing as lazy as he felt.
A young couple walked by him, holding hands and talking. He felt a sudden ache in his heart and came to halt, putting his hands behind his neck and clasping them together. How long had it been since he'd seen Aiden? He'd hooked up with the mortal while on a quest at a time when he'd been experimenting with his sexuality. He'd felt greatly attracted to Aiden, romantically at least, but it had taken a bit for the sexual attraction to come. Aiden had helped him find out more about himself than anyone at Camp Jupiter - no offense to his family and friends.
But as a demigod, even a legacy, he was constantly in danger from monsters. Even now at Disneyland, he occasionally looked over his shoulder, afraid of being attacked. While dating Aiden, he'd been called back to camp but he'd ignored the call. He'd only gone back after a close encounter with a monster. He'd put Aiden's life in danger. He knew if he said it out loud, it would sound dumb, but he had to stay away from Aiden to protect him.
Yet at the sight of a familiar face among a crowd of teenagers, his heart leapt and he suddenly found himself moving very quickly. He'd always had that effect on him. Aiden had always been able to make him ignore what was right or wrong. He didn't take the time to notice whether the mortal was specifically with someone or not.
"Aiden?" he said as he reached him, though he didn't even wait for an answer. He briefly grabbed his arm to stop him before using both hands to grab his face and pull him into a kiss. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't think about the danger he brought with him. All he could think about was how much he wanted to kiss and hold the love of his life and never let him go ever again.
