Nico sat away from the bonfire, distantly listening to the chatter of the campers around him. The Apollo cabin had just gotten done with a song and now the camp was buzzing as the demigods tried to figure out what they wanted to do for Halloween. He was pretty sure the only person that hated this holiday more than him was that son of Thanatos, Kevin Aunor. On any day, Nico could see ghosts, but it seemed that they got very loud and very real to Thanatos' son on Halloween. He felt bad for Kevin, but he still didn't know how to help him.
A camper - a child of Mr. D he thought - joked that they should all just walk through Cabin Thirteen for a good scare. That demigod had paled and shrunk back at a glare from the son of Hades. He hated Halloween. It was a pain in his ass and he was fairly certain comments about him increased around this time of the year. He was tempted to summon some skeletal warriors to scare everyone off - he was certain Percy and the Stolls would have gotten a good laugh out of that.
Nico twisted his silver skull ring uneasily, the grass around his feet withering. He got an odd look from Clarisse, but she quickly shrugged and moved on. He hadn't talked to Percy, hadn't confronted him, said a single word to him, since the meeting where Rachel had given out some big prophecy. He'd been extremely uneasy since that meeting. He hadn't been back at camp for long before they'd had that meeting and since then, he'd spent his time traveling, coming back every few days to check up on the camp. Where was he traveling too? He'd gone to the Underworld to ask his father if he had any information that could help them. That hadn't been fruitful at all.
His other trips, he wouldn't discuss. He'd been going to the Roman camp under the guise of a son of Pluto. They didn't trust him, but they had no evidence to doubt him. He'd learned a few things from them. The most important thing was that they didn't want a war. Something was up. Something had to be up. He'd scouted out the Egyptian and Norse camps - he'd decided not to inform the other Cabin Leaders that there was a Norse camp yet, until he knew more about them. He didn't want to cause a false alarm.
He gripped the hilt of his Stygian iron sword, which he'd stuck blade-down into the ground. He glanced behind him at the bonfire several feet away when he heard music again. The Apollo cabin was singing again, he realized. His eyes fell onto Will Solace and he watched for a moment before yanking his gaze away, his face feeling hot. The grass around him withered a bit more as he stared at it, trying hard to ignore the thumping in his chest.
