Zachary's eyebrows rose and he looked at Caspian with a disbelieving look. It wasn't that he didn't think what he was hearing was possible. He just hadn't expected it. Cas had overheard a conversation between Justin and a certain son of a certain love goddess. As a loyal friend and shieldmate, Cas had divulged the information to him... after about an hour of Zach pestering him without end. Now Zach had something he thought he should bring up to his younger half-brother, but how to do that, he didn't know, which was why he was keeping Caspian by his side.
Chace Gregore, a son of Lofn, had a crush on his half-brother, Xavier. He didn't blame him, Xavier was cute, though to him he was like a little puppy. If any other guy or girl - he wasn't one-hundred percent sure about Xavier's preferences, but being bisexual himself, he didn't judge one bit - liked his little brother, and if Xavier liked them back, he would have jumped at the opportunity to be his wing-man. However Chace had a reputation, whether Xavier was aware of it or not. He was the son of the goddess of forbidden love. That right there set off warnings in Zachary's head.
Now he considered himself one of the least judgmental people at Camp Midgard, however this was his little brother, someone he cared immensely for. When Chace got a crush, it wasn't just a crush. He felt sympathy, maybe even pity, for Chace. He fell in love very easily, just by looking at someone, watching them like they were a work of art. And he always seemed to fall in love with the wrong person, always getting his heart broken. And whenever he left camp, he came back with bruises and cuts.
Zach wasn't an idiot. He'd grown up privileged with his mother, but he'd known a girl who'd faced abuse, a lot of abuse, and took her life in the end. He'd only ever shared that story with Cas - and that had been today, when the topic of Chace had come up. The two of them had gone to Justin and shared their concern, which unsurprisingly Justin felt the exact same way. But Chace always seemed happy. If he was depressed, he was burying it deep.
But Zachary had another priority: Xavier. He'd usually spend lunch with Rosalia, but today he'd explained part of the situation to her and told her if she wanted to join them, she could, but he - and Cas - needed to have a talk with Xavier. Promptly after, the two boys had corralled Xavier at the dining pavilion and sat him down at an empty table. That was where they found themselves now.
Zach could see Chace sitting at a table on the other end of the pavilion, Justin by his side with Atticus, chatting with the boy, who was laughing and smiling. Chace stuck out like he always did, wearing a fluffy rainbow hat. Pulling his gaze away from Chace, he looked at his little brother and asked him curiously, "What do you think about Chace?" He gestured in the direction of the table Justin, Atticus, and Chace were sitting at. "He's cute-ish, do you think he's cute?" He wasn't subtle; he'd never been good at being subtle. He ignored a look from Cas, who he was sure was getting second hand embarrassment from his bluntness.
