It had been awhile since Samuel had left Camp Isis. He never went on quests because he was usually the one giving away prophecies and quests to demigods, and he never got any for himself and no one ever wanted the Prophet to follow them on a quest. So why was he away from camp now? Some of the newer campers had wanted to take a daytrip and he'd volunteered to be their chaperone - against Anthony's protests, thankfully Cameron had shut Anthony up. So he and the new campers had taken a trip all the way from Texas to Venice Beach. The newbies were alright, but several times he'd had to hush them because they'd been talking about running into monsters around mortals. He surely hoped they didn't run into any monsters - he never carried a weapon because he didn't have one. He'd quickly started regretting not asking Cameron or Reid to join him.
The beach had been the newbies' idea and he'd just gone along with it. He didn't have a problem with it - he'd grown up in Los Angeles and gone to the beach every summer with his family. When they got to the beach, the group scattered and he barely had time to snap at them to keep their cellphones on and to stay where he could see them. He hoped they listened to the first part because they certainly didn't listen to the latter. Eventually, he'd lost sight of the entire group. They weren't helpless. They'd been trained by some of the camp's best warriors - Cameron, Reid, Anthony, and Calum he assumed since the positions of Pharaohs and Hounds weren't given to just anyone. They could protect themselves from monsters and they weren't going to brag about being demigods in case they ran into a Roman or Greek.
Sighing, Samuel felt very awkward, standing there by himself. He didn't stand out, but he felt like he did. He was looking around when he noticed a familiar blonde head. It took him a moment to come up with a name. Riley Davis was the Vanir of Camp Midgard, someone he'd met a couple times before. She was much easier to get along with than her brother, who he'd met when Anthony had met Justin once. He wondered what she was doing, but hey, it was the beach. She was probably just having a good time.
Which was why he hoped she wouldn't mind him interrupting whatever she was doing. He walked over to her, calling out and hoping she recognized him, "Riley!" He smiled and gave a quick wave of his hand. "Long time no see." He came to a halt by her and reached back, rubbing the back of his neck. "How's it going?" He needed a distracted, someone to take his mind off of his recent vision. That was why he'd volunteered. He'd needed to get away and get some fresh, Camp Isis-free air.
