It was a very rare sight to see such a large grin on Eleanor's face, but considering it was such a special occasion, she was in no hurry to suppress it. The Winter Solstice, or Yule, was possibly the best time of year for the camp. The entire month of December was just one big slur of relaxation, partying, and family time. Not even Eleanor was immune to the jolly feeling. All day the other demigods could be seen hugging each other, laughing, and kissing each other on the cheek. The Norse demigods believed so strongly in the familial bonds created between them that it was only natural that this time of year was the most relaxed. The last two weeks, Eleanor had all but dropped training schedule as an early Yule present for everyone.
Now that it was finally Yule night, Eleanor just sat back and basked in the feelings of pure bliss in the air. She had spent all morning in a fierce snow ball fight that quickly escalated into a full out war between all the campers. Then as the sun reached it's highest point, everyone headed indoors for some warm food, drinks, and huddled around a roaring fire. Eleanor found herself moving from group to group, just chatting and sharing jokes. Then to end the day perfectly, everyone gathered around the Yulelog. As a gag, the Yulelog was dressed up as a Christmas tree complete with presents galore at the base. For several hours, presents were unwrapped and enjoyed. The party lasted well into the night and around midnight, before people started drifting off to bed (sometimes not their own. Eleanor never made much effort into reinforcing the 'your only allowed to sleep in your own bunk' rule today) the Yulelog was set alight. The previous day the campers spent painstaking number of hours carving all sorts of runes into the log as a sign of offering to the Gods for a good New Year. At some silent signal, a small army of dragons rose into the air and did several aerial flight displays before setting the Yulelog on fire. All the campers cheered and cooed in awe as the flames quickly devoured the Yulelog until nothing but ash was left.
Eleanor herself quickly took that moment to sneak off back to her bunker. Admittedly, she was cold, wet, and quite sure she was going to come down with a cold tomorrow. But that didn't dampen the smile that continued to thrive on her face. The Aesir quickly clambered up her rope ladder into her bunker. She thanked all the Gods above for the invention of the fireplace in her bunker, which had been bewitched to not catch her tree on fire. With a little coaxing, a roaring fire started and gradually started to warm her room. As she hummed a stupid Christmas song under her breath Eleanor stripped herself of her wet clothes and put on something more comfy. She fell on the plush, beat-up coach in front of the fire with a content sigh. She had made sure to leave the rope ladder down in case Summer wanted to come visit. She had that odd shieldmate instinct that she might get a visit from her any moment now.
