Maxis Phoenix, having abandoned his mother's maiden name for something more befitting of Roman Legionnaire, and later a Centurion. He called himself Phoenix, Maxis Phoenix was perfect, in his opinion. Today, being how he was, he was pushing a group of trainees. Recruits, some of them Mr. and Ms. look-at-my-reference-letter. He didn't give damn who recommended you to his and Branwen's Cohort, if you weren't up to snuff, you'd wind up out on your ass faster than you could say 'oops'. And while he was always in good humor, he was significantly stricter on the whole 'First Cohort is Best' stereotype, good references or no, if you couldn't keep up, he'd have you cut, no second chances. His arms were crossed, dressed in a t-shirt and gym shorts, he didn't look the part of Centurion, more like a surfer boy, but he was strong, even without baring his skin, the aura he carried warned of strength.
A Grandson of Neptune, still holding the strength of the Sea God inside him, he had greenish-brown eyes, most comparable to seas rich with life, an abundance of creatures. His personality reflected a calm ocean, vast and deep, he was often relaxed, but thoughtful and wise, and, like the ocean, he could flip on a dime, still as calm as before, but having turned to battle readiness, a hunter's instinct took over. Today, as he drifted among sweating bodies, all working in sync to the routine he had them running, he was smiling. A flirt, possibly, he'd adjust stances, though he was a girl-chaser, he didn't seem to differentiate between a failed form of a guy or a girl, he just saw a broken or incorrect form, and sought to correct it. Occasionally a recruit's inability to perform led to his smile disappearing before the person was gently dismissed, often quietly due to his gentle approach to their inept skills.
And then he went and took a seat, staring out at the new members, maybe fifteen, though they'd started with well over twenty. Disheartening to see so many people fail to pass their first inspection, did they expect getting in the First Cohort to be easy?
