Lyra had been running the obstacle course since sun down and now it was well into the night. If she had to hazard a guess it was somewhere around ten o'clock at night. Yet here she was, running the blasted obstacle course for what must have been the 457th time that day. Lyra was way too stubborn to admit defeat after her Cohort Centurion ordered her to keep doing the Obstacle Course until she learned to apologize for her "rude behaviour". Okay, maybe she kicked the Centurion in the shin during an exercise and swore at him a bit, but that gave him no right to make her run the obstacle course until "she learned her lesson". She let out a furious growl and hit the climbing wall particularly hard as she began her climb yet again. Her arms were shaking with assertion and her breathing was coming out in weak pants, but she forced past the pain and hauled herself to the top of the rock climbing wall and practically fell over the other side. She landed with an audible thump and her knees gave out from under her. She felt to the sand, gritty earth and just relaxed for a moment. Lyra could feel her mind begin to drift into the realm of sleep but she quickly shot to her feet and swayed dangerously to the side from head rush.
The Roman collapsed backwards, landing heavily against the rock climbing wall. She could feel bile rising in her throat but forced it back through will alone. Lyra slid down the side of the climbing wall with her breathing just barely under control. "Stupid Centurions with their stupid orders." She muttered between breaths. Screwing up her face in determination, the woman pushed herself back into a standing position and staggered almost drunkenly towards the balance beams. She stopped before them and thought several swears in her head.
Stopping in front of the balancing beams and just leaned up against them and took a little break. She whipped her sweat-soaked hair out of her eyes and groaned out loud at the injustice of it all. For one moment she considered admitting defeat and limping back to her Centurion with an apology. That was for just a several seconds before Lyra laughed at herself. There was no way she was giving up now. Whether the Centurion took pity on her or her body gave out, it was simply a matter of what came first.
