Zoey couldn’t help faintly blushing – a blush she hoped wasn’t that obvious – when Connor took his shirt off.
“Possibly a new record,” she said with playful sarcasm. She liked teasing him. She found it to be an enjoyable pastime.
When he asked about someone, she turned her head to look.
“I don’t know,” she replied with a shrug. He looked familiar from what she could tell, but she couldn’t place a name.
“Maybe he thinks we’re on a date,” she suggested with a look that said
we could be on a date. She watched him quickly and shyly stuff his nose into a book. She grinned in amusement and looked to Connor.
“I think he was checking one of us out.” She wiggled her eyebrows then lightly laughed at herself.
She watched as Connor called out to the other demigod before looking to his offered arm.
“You better be able to keep up,” she teased, knowing without a doubt that she would be the faster swimmer. She slung her arm in his, wondering if he could see how happy she was. She glanced back to the other demigod and, noticing how he was glancing from them to back toward the camp uncertainly, she waved him over.
“I promise we don’t bite!” she called over, watching him jump slightly as if he hadn’t expected her to call to him. She looked to Connor and smirked teasingly.
“At least I know that I don’t.” She beamed in triumph when the boy eventually walked over to them, his body language practically radiating shyness and submission. Once he was standing by them, she recognized him as the quiet demigod – which made sense as she looked at how he held himself – that had a cabin all to himself.
She still couldn’t place his name or godly parent, but apparently he knew both of them as he said,
“Hi Zoey, hi Connor,” quietly but audible enough for her to make out the words. She could tell he wasn’t good with socializing. She figured, guessing by the book he had held against his chest that he was more used to hanging out with a good book than a decent human being. He smiled ever-so-slightly when he said Connor’s name and she shot Connor a quick look with a smirk that said
he was checking you
out. To the best of her knowledge, Connor was straight – she could have sworn Travis was the bisexual twin – but that didn’t stop her from viewing Kevin’s obvious crush as absolutely adorable.
